Hi fellow dogs and cats (grrrr – no I don’t mind cats),

This is Tessa, the dog with a blog. It’s November the 27th and I am just writing from my hospital bed, no kidding, I am at an Emergency Vet recovering from paralysis from the effect of a tick. I went to the Australian coast with my family, did some body surfing (unintentionally mind you) and had fun at the beach. Being an Aussie dog, I have fun at the beach.

My name is Tessa, ooff, oooff

But, when I got home, boy, I started feeling not my normal self. It took about a week and my body started to lock up. I couldn’t get out of my basket without a big effort. I was stuffed.

Even though my favorite person checked me thoroughly for ticks, she didn’t find the one that was ‘dug in’, so to speak, around my neck and the poison from this little critter started the paralysis of my body. Not Fun!

Normally I would have a dose of Frontline Plus before heading down to the coast where the ticks are real bad, but it was a last minute decision to take me. Normally I just hang out with a house-sitter up here in Canberra where there isn’t a problem with ticks (too cool for them I guess).

Anyways, if you want to save $680+ in Vet bills, please remember to get some Frontline Plus before heading down to where the ticks are.

When it comes to dog training, recent developments have improved the lot of our canine companions dramatically. Since the 1990′s a kinder, more reward-based approach has replaced the more severe training methods, such as the choke chain, that were once acceptable punishments for doggy misdemeanors.

One of the greatest exponents of this new approach to dog training was John Fisher, a pet behavior counselor, who really understood what made even the most uncontrollable dog tick. With such books as Why Does My Dog? and Think Dog! he encouraged owners to see their training techniques from the dog’s point of view, and the results were phenomenally successful.

This program has been designed to bring you the very best of John Fisher’s dog training methods, to help you establish a good relationship with your dog from day one. Beginning with puppies, selecting the right breed for your lifestyle and early socialization. The program will then take you through every aspect of pet dog care, helping you to avoid the most common problems that arise. Prevention truly is better than cure, and Dog Training The John Fisher Way provides everything that you need to know to enjoy life with your dog to the fullest.

YOU WILL LEARN…

-What Makes Your Dog Tick?
-How To View Training From Your Dog’s Point Of View
-How To Establish A Great Relationship With Your Pooch, from Day One
-How To Select The Right Breed For You
…And much more

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Not that great
I was disappointed with this DVD. I didn’t like it at all, poor methods of dog training, nothing I didn’t already know.

1 Star Not worth it
Boring! All this time is spent during the DVD talking about the John Fisher technique, but not really showing you anything specific. Lots of great video shots of dogs romping about with their owners and shots of classes being conducted, all being voiced over about the ‘great john fisher technique’. Who cares! I didn’t order the video so that I could go look for a trainer who trains with this technique, I ordered it so that I could train my own dog. So little instructional information was given and the video was so boring, me and my dogs fell asleep watching it. What a waste!

5 Stars John Fisher’s wisdom in different situations.
It’s a great resource, covering selecting a breed of dog, tips related to training, and information related to dog behavior. It shows footage of dogs in different situations and a little of John Fisher but the narrator often talked over him. The final chapter, chapter 8, was an interesting recital of a personal experience John Fisher had with a challenging dog and how he handled it. This DVD is an overview and not heavily focused on oral commands.

1 Star A Dog of a DVD
I have watched several dog training DVDs and this clearly falls dead last. The video bears little connection to the narrative so you might as well consider it a book on tape. Even then, it will not provide you much practical information on how to train your dog. With the plethora of other options out there, even if they are a bit more expensive, it is worth spending a little more to get something useful.

2 Stars Not a “training” video, but some useful info if you are just starting in dogs
Wow; I sure was expecting better than this! I mean no disrespect to the late Mr Fisher; actually, that is not a put down to him since HE did not produce this tape. It was made after his death, and one would think that someone who he’d mentored could have actually SHOWED the “John Fisher Method” so often referred to. But, alas, no one does. There is some good information on general dog behavior, choosing a breed, etc. So if you’re just getting into dogs or considering getting a dog, it is definitely worthwhile. But if you are looking for a practical Dog Training video, one to show you how to teach your dog, this is not it.

By: John Singleson

Possibly one of the most annoying action to your neighbors about your dog is your dog’s barking. If he displaces everything in your home, then that does not have an effect on your neighbors too much. But the continuous barking day in and night will end up with community difference of opinion and calls to the police force.

The major objective of the domestication of the dog was to make available a buddy to protect and alert. Barking is the way they do this. To prevail over this inherent feature, you must teach your dog to discontinue barking. Such teaching to stop a continuously barking dog ought to be done when the dog is a puppy prior to barking gets to be a crisis.

Barking is nothing but a type of interrelation for puppies and dogs. Dogs bark if they are keyed up, tired of something, distressed, trying to persuade you to play, and when welcoming people, as well as in caution. The nature of the bark more often than not is a sign of just what the dog is trying to correspond.

A few breeds are innately very lively dogs such as the terriers. If they do not get an adequate amount of work out, this deficiency can result in barking on their side out of tediousness. In fact tediousness can be a big reason of dogs barking. This is in particular true if no one is at home all day and then the dog is unnoticed when you are home.

To pay attention to this problem, first you must understand that a dog requires notice and work outs just like we do. It makes no logic to get a dog just to transfer it to the back garden never to interrelate with what is believed to be his human family. Do not get a dog if you have no time to spend with it. And try to take into consideration the altering tendency of your family. Life transforms in due course but that dog will still be there and wanting notice, concern and work outs.

If you have to be gone for a long span of time, there are more than a few things you can do to help out your dog deal with being unaccompanied. First off, try to make him accustomed to you departing and returning back. You would like him to know you do return back and he has not been cast off.

After that, make your dog used to you being not here for a longer span of time. Do not just let him to be on his own for hours on end at the same time. Your dog, and this should be taught to him as a puppy, has to get accustomed to a longer period unaccompanied one step at a time. It may perhaps need a weekend of training or even longer. Begin with a very small absence and work your way up.

One more thing is to provide your dog with chewable playthings and other playthings that can keep him occupied. Many dogs bark merely for the reason that they are fed up. Give him something to keep him busy. A Kong stuffed with kibble is one inventive plaything you can make use of to keep your dog amused if used in the approved manner.
