1 Star Totally Disappointed
I bought this DVD hoping that it would help me groom my bichon at home. I had my doubts about it when I took it out of the box and saw the cheap graphics on the DVD cover. It starts off showing how to bathe a dog for which they use an Australian Shepherd – they could have at least used one of the dogs featured in the rest of the video. This segment seems to last forever with its terrible, repetitive music and narrator who seems extremely bored as he describes the various scents available in shampoos. The narrator is hard to understand and is almost drowned out by the bad music. The DVD continues on to drying, clipping, ear cleaning, and nail clipping. They show the groomers using various brands of clippers but don’t really tell you what blade or comb size they are using. The groomer uses scissors on the face and paws of the bichon, but they don’t tell you the size and type of scissors. Also, it would have been helpful if they would have demonstrated grooming each particular breed from start to finish. Instead, they jump between the poodle, maltese, shih tzu, havanese, bichon, and cocker spaniel in each segment and identify only a few of the breeds they are working on. A little more detail from the narrator during the clipping would have been nice too. This DVD is basically just watching someone groom a dog while listening to annoying music with a few comments from a narrator and some written instructions (some with typos) flashing on the screen. Needless to say, I am continuing my search for another, hopefully more informative DVD.

1 Star Returned it, but never got a refund.
This DVD provided hardly any information at all beyond just watching the groomers. These groomers (or a voice-over) should have been explaining WHAT they were doing in detail. There was no indication of which blade they were using on the various dogs and the reason for that choice; we didn’t get to SEE a detachable blade being changed out or the pros and cons of detachable vs. fixed blades; there was no discussion of the difference among the various brands of clippers available on the market; no discussion of attachment combs or why they used scissors at times rather than clippers, etc., etc., etc.

Finally, I thought the groomers were a little too rough with the dogs, and the tables and environment a little shoddy (and let’s not forget that large scab on the one groomer’s arm that we kept seeing over and over), and I never saw one of them disinfecting their tools before working on a dog. PLUS, the “brand new” DVD came with fingerprints on the play side and hung up during play in one section. All in all, a VERY unsatisfactory experience.

Because the DVD was defective, I asked them to send me a return label, but they did not. They said I would get a full refund, but after I returned the DVD, to this day (4 months later), they have not refunded my money. My emails since then have gone unanswered.

1 Star Waste of time and money
I buy a fair amount of items on Amazon. This is the first time I have bothered to review an item. This DVD in my opinion is not worth the money or time I invested in it. The quality is very poor. Sometimes out of focus and shaky. The narrator sounds like he is bored and he doesn’t even say that much. Apparently you are supposed to learn by watching without much instruction. There was annoying music playing over and over and sometimes made it hard to hear the narrator. Another thing…if you’re going to show a closeup repeatedly of a groomer’s arm how about putting some makeup on the big scab she has. Not everyone cares to see that sort of thing. Probably what bothered me most was they showed you what to do if you cut a dog’s quick while trimming their nails – I got the distinct impression the groomer cut the quick on purpose for this scene.

The item was not what I have expected, very short DVD (15minutes) and not a real guide, lack of information and it was not a price worthed item. I recommend a book instead. My Labrador puppy needs the best training and the item I bought wasn’t helpful at all.

My African Grey absolutely loves this dvd. When I hear about people who don’t know what to do about their bored, loney, screeching bird I love to tell them to get this to entertain them. I wish i could give it 10 stars. They should put out additonal versions.

1 Star Scared my sweet little parrot!!
My Senegal is about a year and a half old and she enjoys listening to relaxation CD’s with bird’s chirping & singing in the background. So I purchased the bird sitter DVD for her listening and viewing enjoyment. She seemed uncomfortable at first but after several minutes became agitated, concerned, scared! I turned it off after about 15 to 20 minutes because she became increasingly more disturbed eventually becoming completely out of control, screaming and making sounds I have never heard her make before. Several days have passed and she is still not quite back to her sweet little self, buyer beware!

4 Stars Silly, but effective
This DVD is simple… it has images of multiple species of parrots, either interacting with each other, or with a human. It has several different options for soundtrack choices- from music to natural parrot noises. It can be placed on a loop and played all day if you want.

Let me be up front, I would have never chosen this DVD. Someone made it available at our veterinary clinic, and the results won me over. I’m not saying it’s a miracle, but it does seem to provide some sort of entertainment or stimulation for the birds.

As an example, during a boarding stay, an African Grey just couldn’t seem to ‘relax’. By relax I mean, the bird sat and shivered in a corner of its cage all day long. We tried her in several different areas; quiet, noisy, alone, surrounded by other birds, surrounded just by other African Greys… all to no avail. In desperation, we put this DVD on a portable player for her. Lo and behold, observable differences in her behavior within 10 minutes. She started eating, engaging with toys and verbally responding to activities around her.

The DVD also seemed to stimulate increased activity and vocalization in a young male budgie as well. Distinct differences in his activity level, seemingly dependent upon the DVD playing or not.

Who knew??? Totally worthwhile as a $20.00 entertainment experiment for your birds.

This video keeps my African Grey and Sun Conure entertained throughout the day. I find it most interesting to see their reactions when a bird of their own species is own the screen. I leave the natural sounds on for the birds during the day, but I like the fact that there are other music tracks. There are also previews of other “sitter” videos for dogs, cats, and people too. Overall, a very good product. I wish I had purchased it earlier.

I can’t give my birds as much attention as I like, so I play videos for them during the day. This is their favorite and it’s on a continuous loop. Whenever I walk in, they are watching and sometimes interacting with the birds on the tv. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition.

Thanks to great DVD’s like this one, my family and I decided to get not one but two yorkies. We looked at another breed,but after reading and watching this DVD we decided this was the best breed for us. Without great information out there about the differant breeds we might of made a mistake. I advise everyone to read about a breed before buying them. 2 Stars Hard To Understand Instructions
I’ve been training my dogs, going to obedience school plus working with videos like Train Your Dog – The Positive Gentle Method (which my dogs and I highly recommend) so we felt ready to learn tricks and tried this video.

Well, for the price you’d think it would be… easy to follow, but no. Instead of showing how it’s done, it’s narrated. The narrator’s talking about what to do, but the video being shown is the dog chewing treats or something else that doesn’t really help much. Most of the video were just short clips put together instead of showing the process of how it’s done.

As for the narrated instructions, it would be like reading a book on how to teach tricks, so I’d suggest, just get a book. You can check out this one The Everything Dog Training and Tricks Book I also found a lot of free videos to watch on line that are more helpful.

Last thing, the video is soo short, maybe like 20 minutes or so, with 10 tricks!

To the trainer, if you ever read this comment, maybe you can put together a more step-by-step video, something like how they did the Train Your Dog video but on tricks. Thanks!

This video is best used in conjunction with other methods. They are short clips on how to get a specific response from your dog. It’s not really a “training” video. Assuming you already have some training experience or skills in place (and let’s hope you do because this doesn’t teach “sit, stay or off” which are needed immediately when you get home from the SPCA or breeder with your dog) this is an amazing video to get your dog to do some specific things very quickly. For me, it has been a great supplement to training classes as well as books. The training methods are kind and fun for both person and dog. They are tricks, some useful, some just cute.

I was really looking for more info on how to prevent biting and aggressive behavior. The digging info was great. Just wish there was more info about real naughty behavior like potty ideas, dominance, yucky behavior – nuisance/non-acceptable issues.
